1. Did you really put a Turquoise Table in your front yard? WHY?
Yes, I sure did. I realized I didn’t know my neighbors very well. I knew a few, but mostly I would watch cars disappear behind garage doors as we all retreated inside our homes. I wondered what would look like if we lived as Front Yard People? You can read the story of how the turquoise table came to be in the 31 Days of Outrageous Hospitality Series.
2. Where can I get a Turquoise Table?
I got mine at Lowe’s. But, any old picnic table will do.
If you live in Austin, Texas we would love for you to order your Turquoise Table from Rework Project. Rework provides hope, dignity, and community for men and women who struggle with homelessness. Read more about our partnership with Rework Project and learn about their handmade tables.
3. What color turquoise did you paint your table?
I happen to be quite fond of Sherwin-Williams Nifty Turquoise.
4. Where do I put my Turquoise Table?
In your front yard, if you have one. If not? Think about where people naturally tend to gather in your community. Rooftops. Community Centers. Church patios. Libraries. Apartment laundry rooms. Neighborhood garden.
5. I have a Turquoise Table, what do I do next?
Sit at the table! Invite a friend or neighbor to join you for coffee. Share your hopes and dreams for your community. Don’t be surprised when someone walks by and joins you. Grab and extra mug and be prepared to welcome new friends.
Please complete this simple form to tell us about YOUR table. Our community is so inspired to see how far our movement is spreading!
6. How can I be part of the Turquoise Table movement?
We’re using the hashtags #theturquoisetable and #frontyardpeople
Please share your photos and stories. You can post them on our Facebook page or send them directly to me. It’s so encouraging to see how our communities and neighborhoods are being strengthened by the simple act of being intentional when we gather & love.
